Sunblock with higher SPF is better?

Why Higher SPF isn't necessarily better??

When consumers are more conscious of the importance of sun protection, they naturally assume that the higher the SPF, the better the protection. Hence, products with very high SPFs(above 100) start appearing in the market.
As i was having conversation with a friend(who is a doctor)-asking for some "whitening tips", he explained that "higher SPF sunblock doesn't mean that it gives better protection".

UVA (ultraviolet-A)
Although less likely than UVB to cause sunburn, UVA penetrates the skin more deeply, and is considered the chief culprit behind wrinkling, leathering, and other aspects of "photoaging."

UVB (ultraviolet-B)
More potent than UVA in producing sunburn, these rays are considered the main cause of basal and squamous cell carcinomas as well as a significant cause of melanoma.

SPF (sun protection factor)
Measures the length of time a product protects against skin reddening from UVB, compared to how long the skin takes to redden without protection. If it takes 20 minutes without protection to begin reddening, using an SPF 15 sunscreen theoretically prevents reddening 15 times longer(about 5hours).
Higher SPF doesn't mean the suncreen is more effective than the lower ones. In fact, higher strengths may cause increased irritation among people sensitive to the active ingredients in sunscreens. Other possible side effects include allergic reactions such as rashes.

Broad-spectrum protection
product that shields against UVA as well as UVB. However, It does not guarantee protection against all UVA wavelengths. Most broad-spectrum sunscreens and sunblocks with an SPF of 15 or higher do a good job against UVB and short UVA rays; if they contain UVA protective ingredients such as avobenzone, zinc oxide, or titanium dioxide, they should be effective.


Even with the ideal sunscreen, some UV rays can get through to your skin and cause damage as no sunblock is full proof!
Always reapply sunblock every 2 hours, bring along sunglass, hat or avoid the sun!

As i was watching Discovery channel, i saw the advertisement for Earth hour, i would like to spread the word on my blog.
Take part in Earth Hour by switching off your house lights on March 28th for 1hour(from 830-930pm)!!

By switching off the lights, it does two things: it means that you wish to take care of our planet by doing your part, and it saves electricity, which means less greenhouse gases would be generated during Earth Hour.

The absurdities in our lifes today are shocking.
examples:
We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values.
More conveniences but less time
More medics but less healthy people
We have learnt to make a living but not life
We have added years to life but not life to years
We have cleaned up the heart but polluted the soul
Our educational institutions are no longer models of knowledge, shameful that we have higher incomes but lower morals
We are more concerned with the label than the labelled
These are times of strong men but weak character
Steep profits but shallow relationships
More leisure but less fun
More types of food but less nutrition
Flashy weddings but more separations
Fancier houses but broken homes
Times of much work but low pay, on another hand-less work but more pay.

It's Ironic

Anyway, there were times whereby i feel like penning down something from the buttom of my heart.. but i failed to do so.. I guess language has certain limitation of expressing one's innermost emotions and also it's not a great idea for me to share too much on blog...
i learned to shut up and pretend as if i know nothing.. cos i don't wanna get into trouble. Listening & people watching is much more enjoyable than talking.. In that way, people can't put words in my mouth!

After work... i went down for CLEO bachelor finals at Zirca with Stephy

Heard that the queue was really long... some queued for 1 hr to get in..
by the time i arrive zirca from suntec... the show started
it was VERY CROWDED but a GREAT show...

the winner is none other than bachelor number 45 vivian
He's really tall, cute and friendly.. No offence to the fans of other contestants, i think he deserves it..
Some of the contestants are also cute & talented, i believe it was good experience for all contestants

Unfortunately, my camera played tricks on me!!! sigh
As I came late, i didn't stand at very favorable position to get good pictures..

The segment that made all the girls nose bleed was the strip tease segment
panties and bras were thrown from the crowd to performance stage!!

finally IT show is over!
Trust me, it was crazy!!!
first day of IT show felt like the final day...
on day 3 of the show, they actually control the crowd by letting people up the escalators"batch by batch"!
But it was still too crowded, hence they had no choice but to block off the escalators and told the crowd to come back in 1 hour's time.
however, there's a loophole!!! there are 2 lifts at each end of the hall!
sadly, due to recession, not many companies hire showgirls...

luckily i have a great partner, elynn to accompany me during the show.
it wasn't easy to stand at the booth for so many hours with point high heel boots!
at a point of time, we cant take it any longer! She brightened up my day by sharing some jokes, tht's so cute of her.
Looking forward to work with her on coming Sat's game launch.

Watched the movie "he's just not that into you" with terence..
The movie is based on a book that was a New York Times best seller.
To my surprise, it was inspired by Sex and the City!
